Mason-Clark Strike Seals Win as Coventry Extend Lead at the Top

Coventry City tightened their grip on top spot in the EFL Championship after a hard-fought 1-0 win over Swansea City, thanks to Ephron Mason-Clark’s first-half goal at the CBS Arena.

Mason-Clark Delivers Yet Again

Frank Lampard’s side struggled to create clear-cut chances early on, but took the lead just before the break. A long throw-in from Milan van Ewijk caused chaos in the Swansea box, with Matty Woolfenden’s flick-on falling to Mason-Clark, who rifled a clinical finish into the roof of the net on the turn.

That goal proved decisive and extended Coventry’s home winning run to eight games, marking their best streak at the CBS Arena since 1959-60.

Resilient but Wasteful Swansea

Despite being 20th in the table, Swansea pushed the league leaders to the edge. They had a major chance in the second half when Liam Cullen volleyed Ethan Galbraith’s cross over from just a few yards out.

The visitors also threatened through Zan Vipotnik, whose deflected shot clipped off Liam Kitching early on, and Melker Widell, whose late effort was saved by former Swansea goalkeeper Carl Rushworth.

But they couldn’t find a breakthrough, suffering their fifth consecutive away defeat and remaining just four points above the relegation zone.

Sky Blues Flying High

With Middlesbrough held by Blackburn, Coventry now lead the table by eight points and are 13 clear of third place at the halfway point of the season. Their automatic promotion bid to the Premier League looks stronger than ever.

Lampard praised his team’s ability to “win dirty” when needed, saying:

“We weren’t at our most fluid, but this team knows how to dig in. These are the games that define a title race.”

Grimes Gets the Last Laugh

In an emotional reunion, Matt Grimes – who left Swansea for Coventry last January – was booed by visiting fans, but ended the night on the winning side.

With Coventry now cruising at the top and Swansea sinking, the former Swans captain had every reason to enjoy the final whistle.
