Rooney Wants Guardiola to Stay at Man City

Wayne Rooney says he hopes Pep Guardiola remains at Manchester City beyond this season, praising the Spaniard for setting the benchmark in the Premier League.

Guardiola, 55, has been in charge at City since 2016, winning six Premier League titles and transforming the club into one of Europe’s dominant forces. However, uncertainty remains over whether he will continue next season, with a decision expected later in the campaign.

Speaking on The Wayne Rooney Show, the former Manchester United captain said:

“I hope he stays because he is brilliant for the Premier League and you want the best managers in the Premier League.

He has set a benchmark over the past 10 years for everyone else.”

Kompany Backed as Successor

Should Guardiola decide to leave, Rooney believes a familiar face would be the ideal replacement — Vincent Kompany, currently in charge at Bayern Munich.

Kompany, a City legend and former captain, previously played under Guardiola and has impressed in his managerial career.

“If Pep does go, they have to go and get Vincent Kompany,” Rooney added.

“He knows the club… it looks like he has learned from Pep.”

Rooney also suggested Guardiola could play a role in selecting his successor, describing the Spaniard as someone who views himself as “a bit of a teacher” and would want to leave the club in a strong position.

Premier League Title Prediction

Rooney also weighed in on the title race, backing Arsenal to edge out City despite the Gunners’ recent 2-2 draw at Wolves.

City, who have a game in hand, will host Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium in April in what could prove decisive. The two sides are also set to meet in the Carabao Cup final and could face each other in the Champions League knockout stages.

“I would prefer Arsenal to win it. I played for Manchester United for 13 years!

For me, Liverpool are the ones I wouldn’t want to win it… I think Arsenal will just win it.”

With major trophies still on the line, Guardiola’s future — and the outcome of the title race — could shape the next chapter of English football.
