Real Madrid Condemn Fan Over Alleged Nazi Salute

Real Madrid have condemned a supporter who allegedly performed a Nazi salute before their Champions League victory over Benfica at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Television cameras captured a fan appearing to make the fascist gesture moments before kick-off. Security staff swiftly identified the individual and removed them from the stadium.

In an official statement, Madrid confirmed they have requested their disciplinary committee to begin immediate expulsion proceedings.

“Real Madrid condemns this type of gesture and expression that incites violence and hatred in sports and society.”

Incident Overshadows European Progress

Madrid secured a 2-1 second-leg win, progressing 3-1 on aggregate to the last 16 of the Champions League. However, the pre-match incident cast a shadow over the evening.

The episode follows allegations made by Vinicius Jr during the first leg in Lisbon. The Brazilian forward claimed he was racially abused by Benfica winger Gianluca Prestianni during the 1-0 win.

The match in Portugal was halted for 10 minutes after Vinicius reported the alleged abuse to the referee.

Prestianni was handed a provisional one-match suspension by UEFA and missed the return leg after Benfica’s appeal was rejected. A full investigation remains ongoing.

“No to Racism” Message Displayed

Before Wednesday’s kick-off, Madrid supporters displayed a banner reading “No al racismo” (“No to racism”), showing solidarity with Vinicius.

The 25-year-old responded on the pitch, scoring the decisive goal in the 80th minute.

Team-mate Aurelien Tchouameni said the victory was:

“For everyone who stands against racism.”

Zero Tolerance Stance

Real Madrid’s swift action signals a zero-tolerance approach to extremist gestures and discriminatory behaviour inside the Bernabeu.

The club’s disciplinary process is expected to result in a stadium ban for the individual involved.

While Madrid move forward in Europe, the broader fight against racism and hate speech in football continues — both on and off the pitch.
