Van de Ven Calls Spurs Situation a ‘Doomsday Scenario’
‘Doomsday Scenario’ for Spurs After ‘Blows’ – Van de Ven
Micky van de Ven described Tottenham Hotspur’s current situation as a “doomsday scenario” following their heavy 5-2 defeat to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.
Spurs endured a nightmare start in Madrid, conceding four goals in the opening 22 minutes of the first leg of their last-16 tie.
The result marked Tottenham’s fourth consecutive defeat under interim manager Igor Tudor.
Nightmare Opening in Madrid
Tottenham’s problems began early at the Metropolitano Stadium.
Goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky conceded three goals in the opening minutes before being substituted after just 17 minutes.
Van de Ven admitted the start was disastrous.
“Everything that could go wrong went wrong.”
The defender also expressed sympathy for Kinsky after the difficult night.
“You don’t wish that on anyone.”
Spurs in Freefall
The defeat extended Tottenham’s worrying run of form.
The club have now:
- Lost six consecutive matches in all competitions
- Gone nine games without a win
Spurs currently sit 16th in the Premier League, just one point above the relegation zone.
Avoiding a first top-flight relegation since 1977 has now become the club’s main priority.
Players Feeling the Pressure
Van de Ven said the squad is struggling with the relentless setbacks.
“Right now we’re just taking blow after blow after blow.”
The Dutch defender will miss Tottenham’s upcoming league match against Liverpool due to suspension after being sent off in last week’s defeat to Crystal Palace.
Mental Strain on the Squad
Van de Ven admitted the situation has taken a mental toll on players.
The 24-year-old said he has stopped checking social media during the crisis.
“I’m not on my phone anymore… just my family.”
Despite the difficulties, he insisted the players must keep fighting.
“It’s rough, really rough… but we have to keep going.”
Crucial Fixtures Ahead
Tottenham face a critical period in the coming weeks.
Upcoming matches include:
- Away at Liverpool in the Premier League
- The Champions League second leg against Atletico Madrid
- A key relegation clash with Nottingham Forest
For Spurs, the immediate challenge is clear: stop the slide before the crisis deepens further.
