Gerwyn Price Claims Ninth Players Championship as Luke Littler Falls Early

Price Secures Another Players Championship Title

Gerwyn Price added another Players Championship title to his collection, claiming victory in the ninth edition of the 2025 tournament with a solid 8-4 win over Ian White in the final.

Competing at Leicester Arena, the Welshman demonstrated his class, securing a crucial 140 checkout in the fourth leg—the highest finish of the match—to gain an early advantage at 3-1. From there, he held his nerve and controlled the match to secure his second Players Championship win of the season, following his triumph in Wigan last month.

Though Price’s match average (94.67) was slightly lower than White’s (96.99), his checkout efficiency (34.8% to White’s 28.6%) proved to be the decisive factor. White outscored him on 180s, hitting six to Price’s three, but the Welshman’s superior finishing sealed the deal.

“I didn’t feel great at the start today—had some ups and downs in my games—but this win will give me a big confidence boost heading into the Premier League next week,” Price told the PDC after his victory.

“There were times when my game was a little inconsistent, but I dug in. In the past, I might have let those moments slip, but I’m learning to grind out wins even when I’m not at my best.”

A Long-Awaited Return to a Final

For Ian White, this was a tournament to remember. The 54-year-old, ranked 52nd in the PDC Order of Merit, reached his first professional tour final in five years—an achievement that will no doubt boost his confidence moving forward.

His run to the final included a memorable win over World Champion Luke Littler in the third round, a result that sent shockwaves through the competition. White, known as “Diamond”, has been competing at the highest level for decades and had already given Littler a scare in the fourth round of the World Championship earlier this year.

Before facing Littler on the oche, White recalled a remarkable anecdote—he had played against Littler’s grandfather in the pub darts circuit in Runcorn during the 1990s. This time, he faced the 18-year-old prodigy, and in a thrilling match, White edged out Littler 6-5 in a final-leg decider.

The match was tight throughout, and Littler had a chance to seal it with a 102 checkout, but he narrowly missed. White capitalized on the opportunity, nailing a 46 finish on double top to complete the upset and progress to the next round.

From there, White continued his strong form, defeating Josh Rock in the quarter-finals and Cameron Menzies in the semi-finals before running into a clinical Gerwyn Price in the final.

While Price took home the Players Championship 9 trophy, Gary Anderson produced one of the most memorable moments of the tournament by hitting a nine-dart finish in his first-round match against Krzysztof Ratajski.

The Scottish legend showcased his flawless accuracy with the perfect leg, sending the Leicester crowd into raptures. However, despite his brilliance, Anderson’s run was cut short in the last 32, preventing him from making a deeper push in the competition.

Josh Rock Claims Players Championship 10

Rock Secures First Title of 2025

The second tournament of the Leicester double-header saw Josh Rock claim his first Players Championship title of the year, defeating Cameron Menzies 8-4 in the final of Players Championship 10.

The Northern Irishman, widely regarded as one of the rising stars of the sport, produced a string of strong performances on his way to the title. His victory marked the fifth professional title of his career, reinforcing his status as a serious contender on the PDC circuit.

A Tough Route to the Final

Rock’s path to glory included a tense 7-5 semi-final victory over Scott Williams, who had earlier eliminated Luke Littler 6-4 in the quarter-finals.

For Littler, it was another early exit, capping off a frustrating few days at Leicester Arena. The teenage sensation, who has taken the darts world by storm, will no doubt be looking to bounce back in the next Players Championship event.

What’s Next in the Players Championship Series?

The Players Championship tour continues throughout the year, with a total of 34 events leading up to the finals in Minehead, set to take place from November 21-23.

With big names like Gerwyn Price, Luke Littler, and Josh Rock all battling for supremacy, the rest of the season promises plenty of drama, shocks, and standout performances.

For now, Price celebrates another title, White proves he’s still got plenty left in the tank, and Rock adds another trophy to his growing collection—but with so much action still to come, the race for Players Championship glory is far from over.
