Maguire Signs New Man Utd Deal Amid Career Revival
Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has signed a new one-year contract, with the option to extend for a further season, underlining his remarkable resurgence at Old Trafford.
The 33-year-old centre-back’s previous deal was set to expire this summer, but the club has moved to secure his services following an impressive run of performances under interim manager Michael Carrick.
Maguire’s new agreement is believed to include a reduced basic salary, though performance-related bonuses could see his earnings increase — particularly if Manchester United qualify for the Champions League.
Since joining United from Leicester City for a then world-record £80m fee in 2019, Maguire has made 266 appearances and lifted both the Carabao Cup and FA Cup.
However, his journey at Old Trafford has been far from smooth. After being appointed captain by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, he later lost the armband under Erik ten Hag and was close to leaving the club in 2023, with a move to West Ham falling through.
Maguire also struggled for consistent minutes under Ruben Amorim, but his fortunes have changed dramatically since Carrick’s appointment in January. The defender has started all 10 matches under the interim boss, becoming a key figure once again.
Speaking after signing the deal, Maguire expressed pride in continuing his journey:
“Representing Manchester United is the ultimate honour. I’m delighted to extend my time here and create more special moments with our supporters.”
United’s director of football Jason Wilcox highlighted Maguire’s importance both on and off the pitch, praising his leadership and professionalism within a young squad.
Statistically, Manchester United have consistently performed better with Maguire in the team since his arrival. His aerial dominance remains one of his standout strengths, with the England international recording the highest aerial duel success rate (78.3%) in the Premier League among players contesting 20 or more duels this season.
Beyond the numbers, his experience and presence in the dressing room have proven vital — particularly during a transitional period for the club.
Maguire’s new contract not only reflects his personal revival but also signals Manchester United’s trust in his role as a leader heading into a crucial phase of the season.
