Boston Train Prices Hit England & Scotland Fans
Fans of England national football team and Scotland national football team are set to face steep travel costs during the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026, with train fares in Boston increasing more than fourfold on matchdays.
The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) has confirmed that round-trip tickets from central Boston to the stadium in Foxborough will cost $80 (£60) — compared to the usual $20 (£15) matchday fare.
Major Price Surge for Fans
The stadium, officially referred to as Gillette Stadium (renamed “Boston Stadium” during the tournament), is located around 22 miles outside the city.
Supporters travelling to group-stage matches — including Scotland’s fixtures against Haiti and Morocco, and England’s clash with Ghana — will have limited and non-refundable ticket options.
Children under 11, who typically travel free, will also be required to purchase tickets for these services.
Fan Backlash Growing

The sharp increase has drawn strong criticism from supporters’ groups.
The Football Supporters’ Association described the pricing as unfair, highlighting concerns over accessibility and affordability.
Scottish fan representative Paul Goodwin labelled the situation “totally out of order,” warning that fans may be forced into significant financial strain to attend matches.
Wider Cost Concerns Around the Tournament
Transport costs are just the latest issue for supporters, following criticism of ticket pricing for the tournament itself — with final tickets reportedly reaching as high as $10,990.
Alternative travel options offer little relief, with parking near the stadium starting at $175 (£132), further increasing the financial burden on fans.
Organisers Defend Decision
The MBTA stated it will run 14 express train services on matchdays and aims to balance event demand with everyday transport needs.
However, with no direct subway or bus routes to the stadium, fans are left with limited and expensive options.
