Luton Beat Stockport to Win EFL Trophy Final

Luton Town came from behind to defeat Stockport County 3-1 at Wembley, lifting the EFL Trophy and handing Jack Wilshere his first major trophy as a manager.

A clinical brace from Nahki Wells proved decisive as Luton overturned an early deficit to secure a memorable victory.

Stockport Strike First at Wembley

Stockport made a fast start and took the lead through Adama Sidibeh, who produced a stunning solo counter-attack, racing clear before finishing over the goalkeeper.

The early goal put pressure on Luton, but Wilshere’s side responded with composure and attacking intent.

Luton Turn the Game Around

The equaliser came through Emilio Lawrence, who calmly slotted home after a well-worked move to restore parity.

Momentum quickly shifted, and Wells put Luton ahead just before half-time with a superb first touch and precise finish from the edge of the area.

Resilience and Late Killer Blow

Nahki Wells, 35, joined Luton from Bristol City in the summer

Stockport dominated much of the second half and came close to equalising on several occasions, with Josh Stokes twice going agonisingly close.

However, Luton’s defensive resilience held firm, with goalkeeper James Shea making key saves to preserve the lead.

As Stockport pushed forward in stoppage time, Wells struck again, finishing from close range to seal the victory and end the contest.

Historic Moment for Wilshere and Luton

The triumph marks Luton’s second EFL Trophy success, following their previous win in 2009, and represents a significant milestone in Wilshere’s early managerial career.

Despite a challenging period in recent seasons, including back-to-back relegations, the victory provides a major boost for the club as they look to rebuild.

What’s Next?

Both teams will now turn their attention back to their League One campaigns, with promotion ambitions still firmly in focus.

For now, however, it is Luton Town who celebrate a well-earned piece of silverware at Wembley.
