Spanish Star Secures 17th ATP Title with Hard-Fought Victory
Carlos Alcaraz battled past Alex de Minaur in a thrilling final to win the Rotterdam Open, securing his first-ever indoor hardcourt title.
The 21-year-old Spanish top seed claimed his 17th ATP title, marking his first tournament victory since Beijing in September.
Decisive Third Set Seals Victory
Facing a tough challenge from third seed De Minaur, Alcaraz took the first set 6-4, but the Australian fought back to level the match by winning the second set 3-6.
The turning point came in the sixth game of the final set, when Alcaraz secured a crucial break of serve. He capitalized on the momentum, winning the next two games to close out a 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 victory.
Adding to His Grand Slam Legacy
Already a four-time Grand Slam champion, Alcaraz has claimed major titles on all three outdoor surfaces – French Open (clay), Wimbledon (grass), and US Open (hardcourt). His Rotterdam triumph further expands his dominance across different conditions.
This win comes in his first tournament since his Australian Open quarter-final defeat to Novak Djokovic, marking a strong return to form.
De Minaur’s Second Rotterdam Final Defeat
For 25-year-old De Minaur, it was a second consecutive Rotterdam final loss, having finished runner-up to Jannik Sinner in 2023.
Despite the disappointment, the nine-time ATP title winner remains optimistic:
“It’s been two years now with this runners-up trophy, I’m hoping I will get my hands on the winner’s one day.”
