Alexander-Arnold: Liverpool Feelings Will Never Change
Alexander-Arnold: My Love for Liverpool Will Never Change
Trent Alexander-Arnold insists his feelings for Liverpool “won’t change” despite criticism from some supporters over his controversial exit last summer.
Now with Real Madrid, the 27-year-old is set to return to Anfield on Tuesday, 4 November for a crucial Champions League group stage clash between the two European giants.
“I Will Always Love the Club” – Trent Speaks Out
Alexander-Arnold left Liverpool in June after allowing his contract to expire, eventually signing with Real Madrid for a reported £8.4 million fee.
“No matter what, my feelings won’t change towards Liverpool,” he told Amazon Prime.
“I have memories that will last a lifetime. I will always love the club, always be thankful for the opportunities.”
Departure Controversy & Fan Backlash
The manner of his exit caused a stir among fans, especially after he declined contract extensions while Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah signed new deals.
Posters questioning his loyalty appeared outside Anfield, despite a career that included:
-
2 Premier League titles
-
1 UEFA Champions League
-
FIFA Club World Cup
-
FA Cup and Carabao Cup victories
-
354 appearances for Liverpool
An Emotional Return to Anfield
Alexander-Arnold confirmed he’s spoken to several former teammates, including Salah, Andy Robertson, and Ibrahima Konaté, since the Champions League draw was announced:
“They were just laughing. I think everybody knew it was going to happen.
We’ll put emotions to one side and focus on football.”
He also pledged not to celebrate if he scores against Liverpool.
Madrid Struggles & Injury Woes
-
Has yet to make an appearance for Real Madrid due to a hamstring injury suffered on 16 September vs Marseille.
-
Still recovering and likely to start on the bench at Anfield.
-
Omitted from recent England squads as he battles for form and fitness.
Fortunately, he credits Jude Bellingham for helping him settle in Spain:
“He’s a great friend and helped me adapt. It’s good to have another English player around.”
Analysis: A Return Wrapped in Emotion
While Madrid aim for their fourth straight win in the Champions League, all eyes will be on how Alexander-Arnold is received at Anfield. Once a symbol of Liverpool’s academy success, he now returns wearing white, chasing silverware with a historic rival.
But if his words are anything to go by, his heart never truly left Merseyside.
