Andy Carroll Leaves Bordeaux After One Season in France

Former England international and Liverpool striker Andy Carroll has left Bordeaux after just one season, the French fourth-tier club confirmed.

The 36-year-old, who joined Bordeaux from Ligue 2 side Amiens in September 2023, departs to be “closer to his children,” according to a club statement.

Impact On and Off the Pitch

Carroll made a strong impact in the Championnat National 2, scoring 11 goals in 21 league appearances and bringing veteran leadership to a struggling club that lost professional status following bankruptcy and relegation from Ligue 2 in 2023.

“Andy brought his experience, physical impact and professionalism every day, in the dressing room and in big matches,” Bordeaux stated.

“Off the pitch, he is an exceptional and generous personality that fans and staff truly appreciated.”

A Notable Career Path

Carroll’s move to Bordeaux marked the latest chapter in a storied career that included:

  • 54 Premier League goals in 248 matches

  • Stints at Newcastle United, Liverpool, and West Ham United

  • Later spells at Reading, West Bromwich Albion, and Amiens

Despite Bordeaux’s relegation to the fourth tier, Carroll remained a bright spot in the 2023–24 campaign and gained admiration from the club’s supporters and teammates.

His future destination remains unknown, but reports suggest a return to England is likely.
