Bayern Munich Seal £65.5m Deal for Liverpool’s Luis Diaz
Luis Diaz is on the verge of joining Bayern Munich after the German champions agreed a deal worth €75m (£65.5m) including add-ons with Liverpool for the Colombian winger.
The 28-year-old has been left out of Liverpool’s squad for their 4-2 pre-season defeat to AC Milan in Hong Kong and is expected to fly to Europe to complete his medical in the coming days.
Liverpool had rejected Bayern’s initial £58.6m offer earlier in July, but the Bundesliga giants returned with an improved bid which met the Reds’ valuation.
Diaz’s Liverpool Legacy
Signed from Porto in January 2022 for an initial £37m, Diaz has become a fan favorite at Anfield, scoring 41 goals in 148 appearances. His 17 goals in all competitions last season marked the most prolific campaign of his career, helping Liverpool clinch the 2024-25 Premier League title.
Diaz’s form in 2024-25 also included:
-
18 goal contributions (G+A) in the league
-
18.3% shot conversion rate — his best in a Premier League season
-
30 shots on target, 56 chances created, and 52 dribbles completed
-
Top-ranked Liverpool player for winning possession in the final third (22 times) relative to time played
Why Bayern Want Diaz
Bayern are looking to reinforce their attack after Jamal Musiala suffered a broken leg and dislocated ankle during the Club World Cup. Diaz brings directness, work rate, and proven end product — all qualities the Bavarian side needs as they gear up to defend their 34th Bundesliga title.
Though Bayern scored 99 goals in the league, they fell short in cup competitions, exiting the DFB-Pokal in the last 16 and the Champions League in the quarter-finals. Diaz is expected to be a key piece in addressing that shortfall.
Liverpool’s Summer Rebuild
The sale of Diaz follows Liverpool’s signings of:
-
Hugo Ekitike
The club remains interested in Newcastle’s Alexander Isak as they reshape their forward line under new leadership.
What’s Next
Diaz is set to complete his medical and sign with Bayern in the coming days. The deal will see him become one of the Bundesliga’s most high-profile arrivals this summer, with expectations high for him to fill the attacking void at the Allianz Arena.
