Cadillac Approved for F1 Entry in 2026
General Motors Joins the Grid with a New Works Team
General Motors (GM) has officially secured approval to enter Formula 1 in 2026 under its luxury Cadillac brand.
The decision follows GM’s strengthened commitment to F1, after its initial partnership bid with Andretti was rejected.
Key Details of Cadillac’s F1 Entry
Entry Approved: Following sporting, technical, and commercial assessments by FIA & F1
Team Structure: Joint effort between GM and TWG
Base Location: Silverstone, UK
Engine Agreement: Ferrari supply deal for initial seasons
Future Plans: GM will develop its own F1 power unit
Why Was Cadillac Approved?
Unlike the rejected Andretti bid, GM convinced F1 by:
Committing to a full works team in the long run
Securing an engine supply (Ferrari) instead of relying on compulsory allocation
Investing in developing its own F1 power unit
US DOJ Investigation into Andretti’s rejection also influenced F1’s decision.

“GM’s Cadillac entry is an exciting step forward for Formula 1.”
FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem:
