Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson Handed Two-Match Ban for Club World Cup Red Card

Chelsea’s Jackson Given Two-Game Ban for Red Card

Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson has been suspended for two matches following his red card in the 3-1 defeat to Flamengo at the Club World Cup on Friday.

The Senegal international was sent off just four minutes after coming on as a late substitute for a studs-up challenge on Flamengo defender Lucas Ayrton.

Initially handed an automatic one-match suspension, Jackson has now had his ban extended by Fifa’s disciplinary committee, who deemed the foul to be serious foul play. As a result, the forward will also miss Chelsea’s potential last-16 clash, should they progress.

The decision is final and not subject to appeal.

Club World Cup Implications for Chelsea

Chelsea, managed by Enzo Maresca, must avoid defeat against ES Tunis in their final group match in Philadelphia to qualify for the knockout stage. The game kicks off at 02:00 BST.

The red card was Jackson’s second in four matches, highlighting disciplinary concerns. He has also accumulated eight yellow cards this season, meaning the 23-year-old has now been booked 10 times across competitions.

Player Reaction and Club Support

Jackson, formerly of Villarreal, apologised publicly on social media following the incident. Teammate Marc Cucurella and manager Maresca confirmed the striker also apologised privately to the squad in the dressing room.

The latest ban means Jackson is currently suspended in both the Premier League and the Club World Cup, further limiting his availability as Chelsea aim for silverware and a strong domestic finish.
