Amorim: “I Can’t Run From the Results” Amid United Struggles

Amorim: “I Can’t Run From the Results” as Rooney Says Man Utd Has Lost Its Soul

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim says he “can’t run away from the results”, acknowledging the rising pressure as criticism from club legends intensifies.

The 39-year-old is under scrutiny ahead of Saturday’s crucial Premier League match against newly promoted Sunderland, as his side languish in 14th place with just 9 wins in 33 league games under his leadership.

“It is normal. You can’t run away from the results,”

Amorim said in Friday’s press conference.

“Then you have the baggage from last season, although last season for me doesn’t matter.”

Rooney: “The Soul Has Gone”

United’s all-time top scorer Wayne Rooney launched a scathing critique on his BBC podcast this week, stating:

“The soul has gone from Manchester United.”

Rooney’s remarks come amid widespread fan frustration, with United having failed to secure back-to-back Premier League wins this season and suffering three defeats in six games.

Despite Rooney’s sharp criticism, Amorim accepted the sentiment:

“It’s normal. These are legends of the club. Criticism is expected.”

The Numbers Behind the Pressure

Amorim has now overseen 49 matches in all competitions, winning just 18. In the Premier League, he has managed only 9 wins out of 33 and is yet to secure consecutive league victories.

Last season, United endured their worst campaign since 1973-74, finishing 15th and losing in the Europa League final. Fans had hoped the absence of European competition this season would give Amorim time to rebuild.

Instead, early signs point to more disappointment.

“It’s not the time to say, it is the time to show,” Amorim said when asked what message he had for supporters.

“For me, this season’s games are completely different [from last season], but I have nothing to say at this moment.”

Is Amorim Running Out of Time?

Despite Amorim’s struggles, INEOS and new part-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe are reportedly still backing the Portuguese coach — for now.

However, failure to beat Sunderland at Old Trafford this weekend could trigger a fresh round of speculation over his future, especially heading into the two-week international break.
