Chelsea agree £55m deal for Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens

Chelsea have had a £55 million bid accepted for Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens, with the 20-year-old Englishman now set to undergo a medical at Stamford Bridge.

Gittens agreed terms on a seven-year contract with the Blues earlier this month and is poised to become the club’s fourth summer signing.

Dortmund initially rejected Chelsea’s £42 million offer on 10 June, holding firm for close to their £60 million valuation. However, the Premier League side returned with an improved bid that met the German club’s expectations.

Gittens is seen as Chelsea’s direct replacement for Jadon Sancho, whose loan spell ended with a £5 million penalty fee to Manchester United. The club is also seeking depth on the wing as Mykhailo Mudryk remains provisionally suspended after being charged with violating the FA’s anti-doping rules.

Due to having already featured for Dortmund in the ongoing Club World Cup, Gittens is ineligible to play for Chelsea in the tournament.

So far this summer, Chelsea have already secured striker Liam Delap, midfielder Dario Essugo, and defender Mamadou Sarr. Andrey Santos has also returned from his loan at Strasbourg, while Palmeiras teenager Estevao Willian will join the squad after his Club World Cup campaign.

Chelsea’s next target is a versatile forward, with Brighton’s Joao Pedro high on the shortlist. The Seagulls have turned down two bids for the Brazilian, with Newcastle also expressing interest. Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike and West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus are additional names under consideration.

The club is also keeping the door open for adding another defender before the transfer window closes.
