Salah Apologises to Liverpool Teammates After Outburst – Curtis Jones

Mohamed Salah has apologised to his Liverpool teammates after his explosive comments caused a storm around the club, according to midfielder Curtis Jones.

Salah, 31, recently expressed frustration in a post-match interview, saying he felt “thrown under the bus” and that his relationship with manager Arne Slot had “broken down”. The comments followed his omission from the starting lineup in Liverpool’s 3-3 draw against Leeds United on 6 December.

Curtis Jones: “He Apologised”

Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of the Tottenham clash, Jones said:

“Mo is his own man and he can say his own stuff.

He apologised to us saying, ‘If I’ve affected anybody or made you feel any sort of way, I apologise.’ That’s the man that he is.”

Jones emphasized that Salah remained positive and well-integrated in the squad despite the controversy:

“He had a big smile on his face and everybody was exactly the same with him.

It’s just part of wanting to be a winner – and I don’t think he’ll be the last.”

The Fallout: Slot Rift, Fan Chants, and Transfer Rumours

After being benched against Leeds, Salah was also dropped for the Champions League win at Inter Milan, only returning as a substitute in the home win over Brighton — a match in which he delivered the corner that led to Hugo Ekitike’s goal.

Fans responded by singing his name loudly at Anfield, but the incident has thrown Salah’s future into doubt, especially amid strong interest from Saudi Pro League clubs ahead of the January transfer window.

He did a full lap around Anfield at the end of the Brighton match — his final appearance before heading to the Africa Cup of Nations with Egypt.

Slot: “We Moved On”

Manager Arne Slot attempted to calm tensions ahead of Liverpool’s weekend fixture, stating:

“We moved on,”

He aimed to draw a line under the situation as the Reds look to refocus amid a crucial period in their season.

Jones: “It Came From a Good Place”

Jones defended Salah’s emotional reaction, saying:

“If a lad’s fine to just be on the bench and he doesn’t want to play and help the team, then I think that’s more of an issue.”

He added that frustration in the squad, including from himself, had always stemmed from a desire to help the team — not disrupt it.

“In the moment, it might not have come out in the right way, but it’s never been to affect the team, the staff, the manager.”

What’s Next for Salah and Liverpool?

While Salah’s apology has helped ease tensions internally, questions remain about his long-term future — especially with his contract situation, age, and external interest all in the spotlight.

The January window looms large, and Liverpool may face a decision if big-money offers arrive from Saudi Arabia.

But for now, according to Jones and Slot, the focus is on unity and performance, as the team looks to build momentum heading into a pivotal stretch of the campaign.
