Spurs Captain Son: ‘Postecoglou Is a Tottenham Legend’
Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min has paid an emotional tribute to Ange Postecoglou, calling the sacked manager a “legend” who transformed the club’s future.
Postecoglou, 59, was dismissed just two weeks after leading Spurs to Europa League glory, ending the club’s 17-year wait for a major trophy, despite a disastrous domestic campaign where they finished 17th in the Premier League.
“You did it your way. And your way brought this club the best night it’s had in decades,” said Son, who was named club captain by Postecoglou.
“I am a better player and a better person because of you.”
Player Tributes Pour In for Postecoglou
Several Tottenham players took to social media to share heartfelt messages:
-
James Maddison:
“You made me vice-captain on day one. We’re European champions because of your belief and winning mentality.”
-
Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario:
“You were a real leader and mentor. I’ll always look up to you.”
-
Micky van de Ven:
“Believed in me from day one. Forever grateful.”
-
Dominic Solanke:
“Thank you for bringing me here and achieving a dream.”
Fans Praise Legacy Despite Poor League Finish
While the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust acknowledged that the Premier League results were below expectations, they said the “vast majority of fans will love Ange forever” for finally delivering silverware.
“His successor must be fully supported by the board,” the statement added.
Who Will Replace Postecoglou?
Spurs are now in the hunt for a new manager. Leading candidates include:
-
Thomas Frank (Brentford)
-
Andoni Iraola (Bournemouth)
-
Marco Silva (Fulham)
-
Oliver Glasner (Crystal Palace)
-
Mauricio Pochettino (currently managing USA, former Spurs boss)
Club chairman Daniel Levy and technical director Johan Lange are said to be evaluating options as they aim to build on the Europa League success Postecoglou delivered.
