DeChambeau & Rose qualify as Ryder Cup teams take shape

DeChambeau & Rose Qualify for Ryder Cup – Who Else Is In?

The 45th Ryder Cup takes place from 26-28 September at Bethpage Black, New York, and both the United States and Europe are closing in on finalizing their 12-man teams.

USA: Six Qualifiers Confirmed

All six automatic qualifiers for Team USA are locked in:

  • Scottie Scheffler (world no. 1, US PGA & Open champion)

  • Xander Schauffele (two-time major winner in 2024)

  • JJ Spaun (US Open champion)

  • Bryson DeChambeau (six top-10s in majors across qualifying)

  • Russell Henley

  • Harris English

US captain Keegan Bradley will complete his team with six wildcards, to be announced on 27 August. There is even speculation that Bradley, who finished 10th in the standings after a strong BMW Championship, could pick himself – something not seen since Arnold Palmer in 1963.

Notable names who missed out on automatic qualification include Justin Thomas and Collin Morikawa, while Patrick Cantlay (15th in the standings, 5½ Ryder Cup points) could be drafted in for experience.

Europe: One Spot Left Before Captain’s Picks

Europe’s automatic qualification concludes after this week’s Betfred British Masters at The Belfry, with just one place still available.

  • Shane Lowry currently holds the sixth and final spot.

  • Rasmus Hojgaard will take it if he finishes 29th or better.

Already confirmed are:

  • Rory McIlroy

  • Robert MacIntyre (runner-up at BMW Championship, confirmed place)

  • Tommy Fleetwood

  • Justin Rose

  • Tyrrell Hatton

European captain Luke Donald will name his six wildcard picks on 1 September.

Wildcard Watch: Big Names in Contention

Likely European wildcards include:

  • Jon Rahm – fresh off a second successive LIV Golf individual title

  • Viktor Hovland – consistent top performer

  • Ludvig Åberg – rising Swedish star

Possible debutants:

  • Harry Hall (409 birdies this year, most on PGA Tour)

  • Marco Penge (two DP World Tour titles this season, beat Hojgaard in Denmark)

History & Stakes

Europe won 16½-11½ in Rome (2023) and are aiming to become the first away side to win since Medinah 2012. Team USA, led by Scheffler and DeChambeau, will be desperate to reclaim the trophy on home soil.
