Auger-Aliassime to Face De Minaur in US Open QF Clash
Auger-Aliassime Overcomes Rublev to Set Up Quarter-Final Showdown with De Minaur at US Open 2025
Canadian star Felix Auger-Aliassime powered past 15th seed Andrey Rublev in straight sets to reach the US Open 2025 quarter-finals, where he will face Australia’s Alex de Minaur in a high-stakes Grand Slam clash.
Auger-Aliassime Shows Dominance Over Rublev
-
In a commanding display on Arthur Ashe Stadium, 25th seed Auger-Aliassime defeated Rublev 7-5, 6-3, 6-4.
-
The Canadian hit 42 winners and faced only one break of serve during the match.
-
The win marks his return to the last eight at Flushing Meadows for the first time since 2021, when he reached the semi-finals.
“I kept my cool and remained calm and poised to finish the match – that was the key,” said Auger-Aliassime. “This quarter-final means more to me because of the struggles and setbacks I’ve had. I’m soaking up every moment here.”
Rublev, frustrated by Auger-Aliassime’s composure and shot-making, smashed his racquet at the end of the second set. The Russian had won seven of their previous eight meetings.
De Minaur Breezes Past Riedi
-
8th seed Alex de Minaur needed just 1 hour 33 minutes to dispatch Swiss qualifier Leandro Riedi 6-3, 6-2, 6-1.
-
De Minaur punished Riedi’s aggressive but erratic play, especially as the Swiss struggled physically in the final set.
-
Despite hitting only 55% first serves in the second set, the Australian remained untroubled thanks to Riedi’s 15 unforced errors.
“It was about staying solid and capitalising on his mistakes,” De Minaur said after reaching his sixth career Grand Slam quarter-final.
Riedi, ranked world No. 435, did well to reach the fourth round after two surgeries last year but couldn’t keep up with De Minaur’s consistency and movement.
What’s Next?
The highly anticipated quarter-final between Auger-Aliassime and De Minaur will be their first US Open meeting. Both players bring speed, power, and tactical precision to the court — a thrilling matchup awaits.
