Jota’s Sons to Join Mascots in Tribute at Liverpool vs Wolves

Anfield will witness a poignant moment on Saturday as the sons of late footballer Diogo Jota take to the pitch ahead of Liverpool’s Premier League clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Honouring a Football Hero

Dinis and Duarte, two of Jota’s three children, will walk out with the matchday mascots when Liverpool host Wolves at 15:00 GMT. This marks the first time Jota’s two former clubs face each other since his tragic passing in a car accident in Spain in July 2025.

Jota, who was 28 years old, died alongside his brother Andre Silva, aged 25. The footballing world was left in shock, with tributes pouring in from fans, players, and clubs across Europe.

Slot’s Emotional Programme Notes

In his pre-match programme notes, Liverpool manager Arne Slot reflected on the emotional weight of the occasion:

“Doing so leads me to think especially of the family of Diogo Jota on what will be their first Christmas without him.

It is not my place to tell them where they should look for comfort – if that is even possible – but I can only hope that the feeling of love and affection that Diogo still generates brings them some solace.”

Slot acknowledged that this time of year is particularly difficult and hopes the visible show of affection at Anfield offers the Jota family some comfort.

Jota’s Legacy at Liverpool and Wolves

Jota enjoyed a highly successful spell at Liverpool after joining from Wolves in 2020. In 182 appearances for the Reds, he scored 65 goals, winning:

  • Premier League (2024–25)

  • FA Cup (2022)

  • League Cup (2022)

Before his time at Anfield, Jota made his mark at Wolves, scoring 44 goals in 131 appearances after arriving on loan from Atlético Madrid in 2017.

He quickly became a fan favourite at both clubs for his technical skill, relentless work rate, and clutch goals in high-stakes matches.

A Touching Tribute

Saturday’s fixture is expected to be a celebration of Jota’s life, with both sets of fans paying tribute. The sight of his sons walking out before kick-off is set to be one of the most emotional moments of the 2025/26 season.
