Man City in Advanced Talks with Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo

Manchester City are making significant progress in securing the signing of Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo, with talks now in an advanced stage ahead of the January transfer window.

The 25-year-old Ghana international, who joined Bournemouth from Bristol City in 2023, has a £65 million release clause in his contract—active only for the first 10 days of January. Sources close to the deal say City are confident they are well-placed to land the player before that window closes.

Premier League Rivals Also Interested

Semenyo’s explosive form has attracted interest from several Premier League giants. Manchester United, Liverpool, Tottenham, and Chelsea have all made inquiries at various levels. However:

  • Manchester United’s interest has cooled, with the club expecting Semenyo to choose City.

  • Chelsea opted out, choosing not to proceed further.

  • Liverpool remain attentive, especially after Alexander Isak’s injury, and could reignite their interest.

  • Tottenham are considered outsiders in the race for his signature.

Bournemouth Prepared to Negotiate

Bournemouth are aware they may lose their star forward, but are open to negotiating a deal that keeps Semenyo at the club until the end of the season. The release clause was introduced during contract renewal talks in July as a compromise to retain the player amid growing interest.

The club’s manager, Andoni Iraola, addressed the situation:

“I know there is lots of noise around him… It is not affecting his performances. He is very committed to the team, and I hope we can keep him here.”

Semenyo’s Priorities: Trophies and Stability

As Semenyo approaches his 26th birthday on 7 January, he is seen to be entering the prime years of his career. According to sources, the forward will prioritize a club with a long-term project and the potential to compete for major silverware. Factors such as location, family life, and squad role are also believed to influence his final decision.

The Ghanaian forward has made nine appearances this season for the Cherries, and while first-team opportunities have been somewhat limited, his athleticism, versatility, and work ethic have not gone unnoticed by Pep Guardiola and his recruitment team.

Semenyo does not want the transfer saga to drag on and is expected to make a final decision early in the January window.
