Mbeumo Set for Man Utd Debut vs Everton as Sesko Saga Continues

Mbeumo to Make Manchester United Debut Against Everton as Sesko Decision Looms

Bryan Mbeumo is set to make his Manchester United debut on Sunday in Atlanta against Everton, according to head coach Ruben Amorim. The 24-year-old forward joined United in a £130m summer spree alongside Matheus Cunha, but his first appearance was delayed due to fitness concerns.

“He is going to play,” Amorim confirmed ahead of the final fixture in the Premier League Summer Series. “I’m really excited to see him play and what he can give to our team.”

Mbeumo had started pre-season training later than most of his new teammates due to Brentford’s staggered schedule. However, he has now reached full fitness and will be tested under Amorim’s dynamic system.

Sesko Transfer Uncertainty Grows

While Mbeumo prepares for his debut, uncertainty looms over United’s pursuit of RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko.

Despite optimism earlier in the week, reports from Slovenia suggest Sesko has opted to join Newcastle United, although neither club has officially confirmed the transfer.

If true, it would be a blow to United, who had hoped to complete a move that would take their total summer spending to approximately £200m.

Financial Flexibility Explained

United’s aggressive summer spending is somewhat surprising given Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s March comments that the club was close to going bust without drastic cost-cutting.

However, club sources have highlighted a range of factors enabling the current outlay:

  • Marcus Rashford’s £325,000/week wage is being fully paid by Barcelona during his loan spell.

  • Sell-on clauses from previous transfers have generated unexpected income.

  • Staggered payment deals with Wolves (Cunha) and Brentford (Mbeumo) are easing immediate cash flow pressure.

Onana Injury Update & Goalkeeping Concerns

Goalkeeper Andre Onana, who suffered a hamstring injury early in pre-season, remains Amorim’s first-choice but is unlikely to feature against Everton.

The Cameroon international continues his recovery in the United States but may return for the final pre-season clash against Fiorentina at Old Trafford on 9 August—a match that could see David de Gea return as an opponent.

Amorim praised backup options Tom Heaton and Altay Bayindir but acknowledged more depth may be needed.

“You can see the goalkeepers — Tom is leaner, Altay did really well, and Andre is going to be better like the other guys who are getting stronger this year,” said the coach.
