Thomas Frank Targets Long-Term Success as New Spurs Boss
Thomas Frank says he is committed to a long-term project at Tottenham Hotspur as he begins his tenure as the club’s new manager.
The 51-year-old Dane, speaking at his first press conference since joining from Brentford in June, acknowledged the pressures of the Spurs role but insisted his focus is on building for the future.
“I like the ambitions and everything I do is for the long term,” Frank said. “It’s not about surviving 18 months, it’s for the long run.”
Frank Embraces Spurs Challenge
Tottenham have had four managers in as many years, but Frank remains unfazed, even joking about his impeccable record.
“I’ve never been sacked, so maybe I needed a bit more risk in my daily life,” he laughed.
Frank praised the club’s Europa League triumph last season under Ange Postecoglou and stated his aim is to build on that success:
“Winning the Europa League gave Spurs a trophy they deserved. Now, we need to consistently compete on all fronts.”
Spurs face League One side Reading in their first pre-season match on Saturday.
Leaving Brentford ‘Difficult but Right’
Frank left Brentford after guiding them to Premier League stability since 2021.
“It was tough to leave Brentford because I go all in at every club, but when a club of Tottenham’s magnitude comes knocking, you can’t turn it down.”
Son Heung-min and Cristian Romero Futures
Amid speculation about Son Heung-min and Cristian Romero, Frank described both players as “very important” but stopped short of confirming their futures.
-
Son: Linked with Saudi clubs and MLS interest
-
Romero: A long-time target for Atletico Madrid
“Sonny has been here 10 years and finally lifted a trophy last season. Romero is a World Cup and Europa League winner. Both are training well and will play on Saturday.”
Frank refused to comment on Spurs’ reported £60m pursuit of Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White, which has sparked potential legal action.
“I won’t speak about players who are not mine.”
What’s Next for Spurs?
Tottenham embark on a pre-season tour of south-east Asia with uncertainty still lingering over key stars.
Frank’s challenge will be to balance commercial obligations, transfer strategy, and preparing a squad capable of competing in four competitions next season.
