Usyk Dominates Dubois to Reclaim Undisputed Heavyweight Crown

Oleksandr Usyk cemented his status as one of boxing’s all-time greats with a clinical fifth-round stoppage of Daniel Dubois to reclaim the undisputed heavyweight crown at Wembley Stadium.

In front of 90,000 roaring fans, the Ukrainian masterclass ended Dubois’ hopes of becoming Britain’s first unified heavyweight champion in the four-belt era.

Usyk, 38, dropped Dubois twice in the fifth round. The second knockdown proved decisive as the referee counted Dubois out, sealing Usyk’s 24th consecutive professional win.

“I’m sorry [Dubois], it’s sport. My people wanted this win,” said Usyk post-fight. “Now I just want to rest with my family. Two or three months – just rest.”

Dubois, 27, who defended his IBF title against Anthony Joshua last September, suffers the third defeat of his career. Each loss has come inside the distance, leaving him with a major rebuilding job.

Usyk reclaims the IBF belt – stripped shortly after he unified the division in 2023 – and adds it back to his WBA (Super), WBO, and WBC titles.

“Take no credit away from that man, I gave everything I had,” said a reflective Dubois. “It is what it is. I’ll be back.”

From the opening bell, Usyk displayed superior movement and timing, punishing Dubois with counter lefts and slick footwork.

In round five, Usyk floored Dubois with a pinpoint left hook. Dubois beat the count but couldn’t recover as another left sent him crashing down again, forcing his corner to throw in the towel.

Ringside legends Roy Jones Jr. and Frank Bruno watched on as Usyk reaffirmed his dominance at the top of boxing’s glamour division.

What’s Next?
