Yoane Wissa Rejects Brentford Contract Amid Transfer Interest

Yoane Wissa has rejected Brentford’s attempt to open contract talks, with the DR Congo forward preferring a move away from the club this summer.

The 28-year-old scored 20 goals last season, attracting firm interest from Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest, all of whom can offer European football in 2025-26.

Wissa’s Future Uncertain Amid Brentford Exodus

Brentford are already set to lose Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United and have tried to pre-empt further departures by offering Wissa a new deal.

However, sources close to the player say he is keen to explore options elsewhere, and agreeing personal terms with either Spurs or Newcastle would not be an issue.

  • Contract Status: 12 months left + 1-year extension option

  • Estimated Valuation: £40m+

Brentford’s Transfer Strategy Shifts

With manager Thomas Frank leaving for Tottenham and key players like Christian Norgaard and Mark Flekken departing, Brentford face a summer rebuild under new boss Keith Andrews.

The Bees have already:

  •  Seen a £35m bid for Omari Hutchinson rejected by Ipswich

  •  Extensively scouted Bournemouth’s Dango Ouattara

Brentford are reluctant to lose both Mbeumo and Wissa in the same window but may be forced to act soon with Wissa turning 29 in September.

“Brentford know they must resolve Wissa’s future quickly to avoid starting the new season with uncertainty in their attack,” said a club insider.
