Eubank Jr Targets Knockout in ‘Fight of the Decade’ vs Benn

Eubank Jr Vows Knockout in Fiery Benn Rematch at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Chris Eubank Jr has promised a “fight of the decade contender” as he prepares to clash once again with Conor Benn in one of British boxing’s most bitter modern rivalries.

Speaking on the eve of the bout at a packed York Hall, the 34-year-old former middleweight champion looked cold and calculated during the final face-off, while Benn, fuelled by what he calls a more “controlled fire”, seemed emotionally charged.

“Everything is on track for a Chris Eubank Jr knockout win,” said Eubank.

“This is my life. This is what I was bred to do.”

Weight and Rehydration Clause: A Crucial Detail

The fighters officially weighed in behind closed doors on Friday morning, both coming in at 11st 5lb (72kg).

While the ceremonial weigh-in at York Hall wasn’t binding, promoter Eddie Hearn revealed that Benn tipped the scales at 11st 13lb (76kg), while Eubank came in two pounds lighter at 11st 11lb (75kg).

Both men are bound by a rehydration clause, which prohibits them from weighing more than 12st 1lb (77kg) on Saturday morning. This limit is designed to prevent dangerous weight fluctuations and ensure a level playing field—especially with Benn moving up two divisions to face the naturally heavier Eubank.

Redemption on Benn’s Mind

Benn, 28, is seeking revenge after losing their first encounter in April, a bruising affair that was labelled a fight of the year contender. This time, he’s approaching it differently.

“I’m a welterweight but I want to come in heavy,” said Benn.

“I’m not concerned about what Chris does… Redemption is all that matters.”

Despite slower ticket sales compared to the original bout, the York Hall weigh-in saw standing room only, with fans queueing around the block—suggesting that fight-night drama still holds strong appeal.

A Legacy of Rivalry

The fight echoes the rivalry of their legendary fathers, Chris Eubank Sr and Nigel Benn, who traded iconic battles in the 1990s. Though they weren’t present on the weigh-in stage this time, their legacy still fuels much of the anticipation.

In their previous clash, Eubank missed weight by 0.05lb, while slapping Benn with an egg during a chaotic press conference. This time, the build-up has been more measured, but tension remains palpable.

Why Rehydration Clauses Matter

Rehydration clauses are a hot topic in modern boxing. Fighters typically dehydrate before weigh-ins, shedding water weight to meet the limit. They then rehydrate overnight, often gaining 10-15lb before stepping into the ring.

Eubank admitted that he usually gains up to 14lb post-weigh-in, but the clause now limits that advantage—a concession that Benn’s team pushed for, given the two-division jump.

“This clause is key,” said Hearn. “It evens the playing field and ensures both fighters meet in fair conditions.”

All Eyes on Saturday Night

The rematch headlines at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, a fitting stage for a rivalry rekindled. With Eubank hunting for a knockout and Benn chasing redemption, fans can expect fireworks.

Whether it delivers on its promise of being a “fight of the decade” remains to be seen—but both men appear more focused than ever.
