Hemel Hempstead Shock Yeovil as FA Cup Magic Returns
FA Cup Round-Up: Hemel Hempstead Stun Yeovil in Cup Classic
Hemel Hempstead Town produced one of the stories of the FA Cup fourth qualifying round, edging Yeovil Town 2-1 despite playing over an hour with 10 men.
It’s only the third time in 105 seasons that the National League South side have reached the first round proper. A Kyle Ajayi opener and Finley Wilkinson’s late header sealed the win after Isiah Noel-Williams was sent off in the 25th minute.
Yeovil’s Harvey Greenslade equalised late on, but Hemel held their nerve to secure their place in Monday’s draw.
Giant-Killings in Kent: Ebbsfleet & Chatham Progress
Two more upsets occurred in Kent:
-
Ebbsfleet United beat Solihull Moors 2-0, knocking out the National League outfit.
-
Chatham Town, from the Isthmian League Premier Division, ousted Tonbridge Angels 2-1, reaching the FA Cup first round for the first time since 1928.
Maldon & Tiptree Lead Non-League Charge
Maldon & Tiptree, of the eighth-tier Isthmian League Division One North, are now the lowest-ranked side left in the competition.
A 1-0 win over Flackwell Heath marked their sixth FA Cup victory of the campaign—matching the total required to win the whole tournament.
Former Premier League striker Freddie Sears scored the decisive goal, while Elliot Justham saved a penalty and Macauley Bonne made his debut.
Farnham Denied by 98th-Minute Equaliser
In one of the most dramatic ties, Farnham Town—playing in the FA Cup live on BBC Sport—led Sutton United 3-2 into stoppage time.
But in the 98th minute, Jayden Harris salvaged a draw for Sutton, denying Farnham a historic win. Darryl Sanders had earlier scored twice for the hosts.
