Harvey Elliott Considering Liverpool Future Amid Game-Time Concerns
Liverpool midfielder Elliott to consider future at club
Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott has revealed he may consider leaving the club this summer in search of more regular first-team football.
The 22-year-old, currently with the England Under-21 squad for the European Championship in Slovakia, admitted he does not want to be “wasting years” during what he describes as a “short career.”
Despite being fit, Elliott made just 18 Premier League appearances last season—16 of them from the bench—under new manager Arne Slot. His only two starts came after the Reds had already sealed the Premier League title.
“I’m coming into an age now where I’m 22, going to be 23 next season. I don’t really want to be wasting years on my career because it’s a short career,” said Elliott.
In total, Elliott featured in 28 matches across all competitions in 2024-25, contributing five goals and three assists in 822 minutes. This marked a notable drop from his 53 appearances and 11 assists in the 2023-24 campaign.
“Nothing makes me want to leave. I love the club, I love the fans, the team. I support them as well. But most importantly, it’s just about what’s best for my career,” he added.
Liverpool’s pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz this summer could further restrict Elliott’s chances of consistent minutes.
Elliott also referenced his Champions League-winning goal against Paris St-Germain in March as a personal highlight but admitted it didn’t lead to the first-team run he had hoped for.
“I thought PSG was kind of a high for me… but the boss is the boss. His decisions were not to start me – I can’t complain.”
Signed from Fulham in 2019, Elliott was sidelined for three months in early 2025 with a broken foot but returned to fitness in December.
As Liverpool continue to evolve under Slot, Elliott now faces a crucial decision: fight for his place, or seek a new challenge to accelerate his development.
