England ‘got away with it’ against Andorra – Kane

England captain Harry Kane has admitted that his side “got away with it” after a lacklustre 1-0 win over Andorra in a World Cup qualifier in Barcelona.

Despite facing a team ranked 173rd in the world, England produced a flat performance and were booed by some of their own supporters at both half-time and full-time. Kane’s 50th-minute goal—his 72nd for England—secured the three points, but the striker acknowledged the team’s shortcomings.

“It wasn’t our greatest performance,” Kane said. “I don’t think it’s one many people are going to remember, that’s for sure, but it’s three points in the bag.

“We know we can play better in all aspects, both with and without the ball. It’s down to us now to analyse it, look back, and learn from it.”

Manager Thomas Tuchel echoed Kane’s concerns, saying England “lacked the seriousness and urgency” needed at this level.

Kane also commented on the conditions, noting that the dry pitch and humid weather mirrored what they might face during the 2026 World Cup in North America.

“It was probably our best move that led to the goal,” Kane added. “But we didn’t have enough of that—overhit balls, poor runs—it killed our momentum.”

England remain top of Group K following earlier wins against Latvia and Albania. Albania are second with four points, while Latvia are third. Serbia have a point from one match, and Andorra remain bottom.

“We looked a bit fatigued physically and mentally,” Kane concluded. “We got away with it because we’re a good team, but it wasn’t good enough.”

England will next face Senegal in a friendly at Nottingham Forest’s City Ground on Tuesday.
