Kane Makes History as Bayern Book Last-Eight Spot
Harry Kane made history as Bayern Munich secured their place in the Champions League quarter-finals with a commanding win over Bayer Leverkusen.
The England captain netted his 10th goal in this season’s competition—more than any other English player in a single Champions League campaign—sealing Bayern’s dominance in the tie with a 5-0 aggregate victory.
Bayern in Control from the Start
Bayern entered the second leg with a 3-0 advantage and showcased their authority again in Leverkusen. Despite the hosts posing early threats, with Michael Olise and Kingsley Coman coming close, Bayern’s experience shone through.
Leverkusen, missing star player Florian Wirtz due to injury, struggled to find creativity in the final third. Their hopes of becoming only the fifth side in history to overturn a three-goal first-leg deficit faded as the game progressed.
Kane and Davies Seal the Win
- 52′ Kane’s Landmark Goal: A miscleared Patrik Schick header from a Joshua Kimmich free-kick fell perfectly for Kane, who bundled it home from close range.
- 71′ Davies Doubles the Lead: Exploiting Leverkusen’s stretched defense, Alphonso Davies converted Kane’s cross to put the tie beyond doubt.
- Missed Chances: Kane narrowly missed a second, hitting the crossbar, while Jamal Musiala struck the post late in the game.
Bayern’s Quarter-Final Path & Title Ambitions
Bayern will now face Inter Milan in the quarter-finals, with the first leg scheduled for April 7/8 and the return a week later. The Bavarian giants are now strong contenders to reach the final, which will be played at their home ground, the Allianz Arena.
Kane’s Impact & Bayern’s Resurgence
Despite a slow start to the season, Bayern have found momentum under Vincent Kompany. Kane has been instrumental, with 32 goals in 36 appearances across all competitions, proving his worth as one of Europe’s elite strikers.
Jamal Musiala, Michael Olise, and Kingsley Coman provided strong attacking displays, while Leon Goretzka’s midfield dominance further cemented Bayern’s growing strength.
Kane’s Reaction:
“To beat this team 5-0 [on aggregate] shows the type of team we are and the path we are on. The intensity we showed, the way we created chances, and our performance against a top side will only give us more confidence,” said Kane post-match.
With Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund, or Lille waiting in a potential semi-final, Bayern Munich will fancy their chances of a deep run in the competition.
