NBA Star Kevin Durant Becomes Minority Owner of PSG

Two-time NBA champion Kevin Durant has officially joined the world of football ownership, acquiring a minority stake in Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) through a strategic partnership with Qatar Sports Investments (QSI).

The 35-year-old Phoenix Suns forward, who recently won Olympic gold at Paris 2024, now becomes part of the ownership team behind Champions League winners PSG as the club aims to expand into basketball and explore global sports ventures.

A Landmark Collaboration

Durant, one of the most influential athletes in global sport, expressed pride in his new role:

“It is an honour to partner with QSI and to be a shareholder of PSG, a club and a city that is deeply close to my heart.

This club has big plans and I look forward to being part of the next phase of growth and exploring new investment opportunities with QSI.”

The partnership will see Durant’s media and investment company, Boardroom, work closely with PSG on a range of commercial, content, and investment projects.

Basketball Ambitions for PSG

Qatar Sports Investments, who purchased PSG in 2011, are actively exploring the creation of a European basketball franchise, in coordination with FIBA and the NBA. Durant’s presence is expected to bring vital sporting credibility and strategic insight into PSG’s basketball expansion.

PSG stated that Durant will support their continued diversification across both sports and business, as well as content and fan engagement initiatives.

Durant’s Connection to PSG

Durant’s investment is not entirely new — he was already linked to PSG through Arctos Partners, a minority shareholder in the French club. This latest move marks his direct financial commitment to PSG and its long-term vision.

Durant’s addition to the ownership group comes as PSG celebrates their first UEFA Champions League title, having defeated Inter Milan 5-0 in the final.

Durant’s Growing Portfolio

Durant, a four-time Olympic gold medallist and former NBA MVP, continues to expand his influence off the court. Recently ranked among Forbes’ highest-paid athletes in 2025, he has built a substantial business portfolio, including:

  • Boardroom (media and investments)

  • Endorsements with major global brands

  • Minority stakes in multiple sports ventures

This latest PSG move enhances his standing as one of the most business-savvy athletes of his generation.

PSG’s Modern Evolution

Since QSI’s acquisition in 2011, PSG has evolved into a global sports brand, winning 11 Ligue 1 titles and now the Champions League. With Durant on board, the club is poised to continue its transformation into a multi-sport powerhouse.
