Leeds United Sign Jaka Bijol from Udinese on Five-Year Deal

Leeds Sign Udinese Centre-Back Jaka Bijol Until 2030

Leeds United have completed the signing of Slovenia international Jaka Bijol from Udinese, with the 26-year-old centre-back agreeing a five-year deal that runs until 2030.

The fee is officially undisclosed, but the move marks Leeds’ second signing of the summer window following the arrival of forward Lukas Nmecha from Wolfsburg on a free transfer.

Bijol: “A Big Challenge, But I’m Ready”

Speaking to club media after completing the move, Bijol expressed his excitement and commitment to helping Leeds succeed:

“This is a big day for me, for my family, and I’m happy to be here. Maybe the biggest one of my career so far,” Bijol said.

“I think the club and myself are ready for the Premier League. I can promise that I will give everything in every training to be ready for the first game of the season.”

From Slovenia to the Premier League

Bijol began his professional career with Rudar Velenje in his native Slovenia before moving to CSKA Moscow, where he featured in European competition, including the Champions League.

After a loan spell at Hannover 96, he joined Udinese permanently in 2022, where he became a mainstay in defence, scoring two goals in 37 appearances across all competitions last season.

A former defensive midfielder, Bijol’s positional intelligence and adaptability have made him a reliable presence at the back.

International Experience

Bijol made his international debut for Slovenia in 2018 at the age of 19, and has since amassed 63 caps for his country. He played a key role in their qualification for Euro 2024, showcasing his leadership and experience at the top level.

Leeds Bolster Their Defence Ahead of Premier League Return

With promotion to the Premier League, Leeds are reinforcing key areas of the squad. Bijol is expected to bring defensive stability, aerial dominance, and composure as the club prepares to face elite competition.

Manager and recruitment staff view the signing as part of a long-term project to establish Leeds as a Premier League mainstay.
