Liverpool Step Up Move for Crystal Palace Captain Marc Guehi
Liverpool Intensify Pursuit of Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi
Liverpool have held initial talks over a potential deal for Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi, with the Premier League giants aiming to secure the England international before the transfer window closes.
Guehi, 25, has just one year remaining on his contract, and Palace chairman Steve Parish recently admitted the club may have to sell this summer to avoid losing him for free in 2026.
Sources have told BBC Sport that while Liverpool are keen, convincing Guehi to make the move will depend on more than just personal terms. With the 2026 World Cup on the horizon, regular first-team football will be a major factor in his decision.
Liverpool’s Defensive Plans
The Reds are also working on a deal for Parma’s 18-year-old Giovanni Leoni, an Italy U19 international viewed as one for the future rather than direct competition for Guehi.
Since joining from Chelsea in 2021, Guehi has made over 150 appearances for Palace, won 23 England caps, and played a key role in their FA Cup triumph.
Last summer, Newcastle had bids up to £65m rejected for the defender, but Palace’s asking price has now dropped to around £40m given his contract situation. Liverpool are seeking to pay less.
Record Summer Spending at Anfield
Liverpool’s pursuit of Guehi comes amid a hectic transfer window in which they have already spent around £270m while recouping £170m through player sales.
The Merseyside club also saw a £110m bid for Newcastle striker Alexander Isak rejected, though the Sweden international remains keen on a move to Anfield.
If deals for both Guehi and Isak are completed, Liverpool’s summer spending could surpass £400m.
