Mbappe: ‘I Am Not Bitter’ After PSG’s Champions League Triumph
‘I Am Not Bitter’ – Mbappe Reacts to PSG Champions League Glory
Kylian Mbappe insists he holds no regrets or bitterness after Paris Saint-Germain’s historic Champions League victory, which came just months after he departed the club to join Real Madrid.
The France captain, who scored 256 goals in seven seasons for PSG, saw his former side destroy Inter Milan 5-0 in the final on 31 May, securing the club’s first-ever European crown.
“I didn’t leave too soon; my story with PSG was over,” said Mbappe.
“I am not bitter; I had reached the end of the road.”
“It Had to Happen Without Me”
Speaking ahead of France’s Nations League third-place match against Germany, Mbappe was reflective rather than resentful:
“I tried everything, and it was destiny that it had to happen without me.
PSG winning the Champions League without me doesn’t affect me. I was happy — I think they deserved it.”
“They’ve had so many years where they struggled. I’ve been there too. I’ve played in every Champions League stage in Paris — except for the victory.”
Mbappe also praised the dominant nature of PSG’s performance:
“They’re the best team in Europe. I don’t remember seeing a team win 5-0 in a major final.”
From Near-Miss to New Beginnings
Mbappe’s closest moment with PSG in the Champions League came in 2020, when they fell 1-0 to Bayern Munich in the final. Despite being the club’s talisman for years, continental success eluded him in the French capital.
Now at Real Madrid, the 26-year-old endured a trophyless debut season — Madrid’s first without silverware in four years — but he did win the European Golden Shoe with 31 La Liga goals.
Madrid were eliminated by Arsenal in the quarter-finals of this year’s Champions League.
What’s Next for Mbappe?
Despite the quiet first campaign with Los Blancos in terms of trophies, Mbappe remains optimistic and is expected to lead France in their upcoming Euro 2028 qualifiers.
With his move to Madrid long awaited, attention now turns to whether he can help restore the Spanish giants to European glory — just as PSG finally tasted it without him.
