Merino Hat-Trick Leads Spain’s 6-0 Rout of Turkey
Merino Scores Hat-Trick as Spain Crush Turkey 6-0
Mikel Merino produced a dazzling performance with a hat-trick as Spain thrashed Turkey 6-0 in a World Cup 2026 qualifier in Konya. The Arsenal midfielder now has six goals in six games for Spain in 2025, continuing a remarkable scoring run.
Merino Magic in Midfield
Merino opened the scoring with two first-half goals, both assisted by Mikel Oyarzabal, before completing his treble with a spectacular long-range curler in the 57th minute, set up by Lamine Yamal.
“That third goal was special — right out of the top drawer,” said Spain coach Luis de la Fuente.
Having scored just twice in his first 31 caps, Merino’s 2025 form has been transformative for La Roja.
Midfield Brilliance: Pedri at the Double
Pedri added two goals of his own, linking up brilliantly with Merino and Oyarzabal in Spain’s fluid attacking play. The Barcelona star showcased composure and creativity, while fellow Blaugrana teammate Ferran Torres netted Spain’s sixth.
Oyarzabal: The Playmaker
Real Sociedad forward Oyarzabal was instrumental in the rout, contributing three assists, including both of Merino’s first-half strikes. His sharp movement and vision broke Turkey’s defensive lines repeatedly.
