Mikel Arteta “Disappointed” as Arsenal Fail to Make January Transfers
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has admitted he is disappointed by the club’s failure to make any signings during the January transfer window, despite key injuries in attack.
Arsenal’s Transfer Window: No Arrivals, Three Departures
Key Areas of Concern:
- Gabriel Jesus (ACL injury) – Out for the rest of the season.
- Bukayo Saka (Hamstring injury) – Yet to return.
Despite expectations that Arsenal would reinforce their attack, they did not complete any signings.
Arteta on Arsenal’s Transfer Strategy:
“We had a clear intention to explore opportunities to improve our squad. With injuries, we’ve been impacted and we haven’t achieved that. We are disappointed but also disciplined in our approach.”
The manager emphasized the club’s commitment to only signing top-quality players, stating:
“We must stay in the financial lane that has taken us this far.”
Why Arsenal Struggled in the January Market
According to football finance expert Kieran Maguire, Arsenal faced a tough market for buyers:
“Few quality players were available, and with the extension of the Champions League and Europa League into January, clubs were reluctant to sell.”
Rather than overpay for short-term solutions, Arsenal opted to stick to their long-term strategy.
Outgoing Transfers: Three Players Depart
Ayden Heaven (17, Defender) → Manchester United
Josh Robinson (20, Defender) → Wigan Athletic
Marquinhos (Brazilian Winger) → Cruzeiro (Loan)
With no new signings, Arteta hinted at a tactical shift in Arsenal’s attack:
“Our front line will have to be flexible, and we may have to try something different.”
Arsenal’s Title Challenge Continues
Despite their lack of new signings, Arsenal remain in strong form, sitting second in the Premier League after a dominant 5-1 win over Manchester City.
Current Standings:
2nd place – 6 points behind leaders Liverpool (who have played one game fewer).
With the EFL Cup semi-final second leg against Newcastle coming up, Arsenal’s focus now shifts to on-pitch adaptability as they aim to maintain their title challenge.
