Ngannou Responds to Jon Jones’ Call for Heavyweight ‘Super-Fight’
Francis Ngannou has issued a fiery response to Jon Jones’ proposal for a long-awaited “super-fight,” two years after departing the UFC to join the Professional Fighters League (PFL).
The 38-year-old Cameroonian, who has mostly focused on boxing since leaving the UFC, said he is open to the blockbuster clash:
“You take care of the UFC, I’ll take care of the PFL, and we’ll finally find out who’s the king of the heavyweight,” Ngannou wrote on social media.
Cross-Promotion Super-Fight in Sight?
The response comes after Jones, 37, reignited talk of facing Ngannou, noting the matchup would be about “two real legacies colliding.”
“That’s a real super-fight. A clash of champions, not just hype,” said Jones, a two-weight UFC champion.
“He held the UFC belt. I’ve defended mine for over a decade.”
While the UFC has historically avoided co-promotional events, PFL founder Donn Davis added fuel to the fire by suggesting a “winner-takes-all” format, where the victor and their promotional team would receive all profits from the bout.
UFC Return on the Cards for Ngannou?
Despite a turbulent exit from the UFC in 2023, where Dana White stated Ngannou would “never be back,” recent comments from Ngannou’s coach Eric Nicksick hinted otherwise.
Nicksick suggested that the best challenges for Ngannou remain in the UFC, prompting Jones to immediately engage on social media.
This bout would reunite two former UFC heavyweight champions in a rare cross-promotional mega-event that fans have been clamouring for.
