Norris Tops Hungarian GP Practice as Verstappen Faces Investigation
Lando Norris led a dominant McLaren one-two in Friday practice at the Hungarian Grand Prix, edging out team-mate Oscar Piastri by 0.291 seconds at the Hungaroring.
Norris, who also topped the first session by just 0.019s over Piastri, overcame a mistake on his initial flying lap to set the fastest time of the day. The Briton had to abort his first run after running wide at Turn Two but recovered to post a lap that comfortably beat the Australian’s best.
Verstappen Off the Pace and Under Investigation
Red Bull’s Max Verstappen endured a nightmare day, finishing 14th and describing his car as “undrivable” over team radio. The championship leader struggled to find balance throughout the session and faces further scrutiny after allegedly throwing an object from his cockpit while on track. The incident is being reviewed by FIA stewards.
Leclerc, Alonso, and Hamilton in the Mix
Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc was third fastest, 0.399s off Norris, followed by Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso, who returned to action after missing FP1 due to a back issue.
Lewis Hamilton was sixth, just behind Leclerc, but the Mercedes driver appeared to be battling rear instability, suffering multiple oversteer moments and running off at the chicane.
Team-mate George Russell placed seventh, with Isack Hadjar (Racing Bulls), Yuki Tsunoda (Red Bull), and rookie Kimi Antonelli (Mercedes) rounding out the top ten.
