Newcastle United have completed the signing of midfielder Jacob Ramsey from Aston Villa in a £40m transfer.

The 24-year-old has signed a five-year contract at St James’ Park and becomes Newcastle’s fourth summer signing, following Anthony Elanga, Malick Thiaw and Aaron Ramsdale.

Ramsey Excited for New Chapter

The former England Under-21 international, who came through Villa’s academy, made 167 senior appearances for the club before making the switch.

“This is a big move for me,” Ramsey told Newcastle’s official website.

“As soon as I knew the gaffer was interested, it didn’t take much to decide. It was always tough playing against Newcastle – the energy, the athleticism, the fans. I feel my game suits that, and I’m excited to be part of it.”

Ramsey will continue wearing the number 41 shirt, the same number he wore at Villa Park.

Howe Praises “Fantastic Addition”

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe said Ramsey brings both quality and hunger to his side:

“Jacob offers versatility and his directness in attack has proven to be a real threat at this level. He fits our profile of young, hungry players with Premier League experience and we believe he’ll be a major asset.”

Howe has built a reputation for improving players, with Anthony Gordon, Dan Burn, Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento all earning England recognition under his guidance. Ramsey could be next.

Strengthening for Four Competitions

Newcastle are set to compete across four fronts this season, and Ramsey adds depth to a midfield already stacked with talent.

The Magpies are still searching for a new striker following Callum Wilson’s departure and Alexander Isak’s ongoing absence, with Brentford forward Yoane Wissa among their targets.

Ramsey could make his Newcastle debut at St James’ Park when they face Liverpool on 25 August.
