Wood Strikes Twice as Nottingham Forest Beat Brentford 3-1
Nottingham Forest opened their Premier League campaign in style with a 3-1 victory over Brentford at the City Ground, as Chris Wood scored twice and debutant Dan Ndoye netted on his first appearance.
Forest Dominate Early
The hosts struck in the fifth minute, with Chris Wood reacting quickest inside the box to give Forest an early lead.
Swiss winger Dan Ndoye, signed from Bologna for £36m, marked his debut with a well-timed header from Morgan Gibbs-White’s clever chipped pass in the 42nd minute.
Before half-time, Forest made it 3-0 when Elliot Anderson intercepted a poor pass and played Wood through, who calmly rounded Caoimhin Kelleher to score his second.
Brentford Struggle Under Andrews
New Brentford boss Keith Andrews endured a difficult first game in charge following the departure of Thomas Frank.
His side managed only a late consolation when Brazilian striker Igor Thiago converted a 78th-minute penalty after Ibrahim Sangare handled in the area.
The Bees looked disjointed, with debutants Antoni Milambo and Michael Kayode struggling to adapt, while Jordan Henderson made a brief second-half cameo.
Gibbs-White Pulls the Strings
Forest captain Morgan Gibbs-White was the standout performer, dictating play and creating chances throughout.
He produced the moment of the match with a perfectly floated ball that Ndoye met for the second goal.
Gibbs-White also went close himself with a spectacular overhead attempt, underlining why Forest fought to secure him on a new long-term deal this summer despite interest from Tottenham and Manchester City.
