Aston Villa Sink Spurs as Pressure Mounts on Postecoglou | FA Cup 2-1
Villa Secure Fifth-Round Spot for First Time in a Decade
Aston Villa booked their place in the FA Cup fifth round for the first time in 10 years, piling further pressure on Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou with a 2-1 victory at Villa Park.
Ramsey Strikes Early, Rogers Seals the Win
Villa made a dream start, taking the lead just 57 seconds into the game as Jacob Ramsey’s shot slipped through Spurs goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky’s hands.
The hosts dominated proceedings and doubled their lead in the 64th minute when Morgan Rogers pounced on a loose ball, firing into the roof of the net for his 11th goal of the season.
Just a minute later, Marcus Rashford made his Villa debut, coming off the bench after his loan move from Manchester United.
Tottenham’s Cup Woes Continue
For Spurs, this marks a second cup defeat in four days, following their 4-0 loss to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup semi-final. Postecoglou’s side has also dropped to 14th in the Premier League, adding to their struggles.
Villa Break FA Cup Curse

FA Cup highlights: Aston Villa 2-1 Tottenham Hotspur
Since losing the 2015 FA Cup final to Arsenal, Villa has suffered early exits in the competition. Now, with Liverpool and Arsenal out, and Manchester City struggling for form, Villa may sense a golden opportunity.
Unai Emery’s team dominated the first half, registering 11 shots to Spurs’ three, but failed to extend their 1-0 halftime lead. However, they remained relentless, with Youri Tielemans narrowly missing a chance before Ramsey was denied a second by Kinsky’s brave save.
Villa’s new signing Rashford nearly made an instant impact, linking up with Rogers and Ramsey, but Kinsky once again kept Spurs in the game.
Spurs’ Struggles Deepen
Postecoglou’s side, desperate to bounce back, started poorly, conceding within the first minute. Their defensive frailties continued as Villa dominated possession and created multiple chances.
Spurs captain Son Heung-min came closest to an equalizer but was denied by a brilliant save from Emiliano Martinez. New signing Tel pulled one back in stoppage time, but it was too little, too late.
As frustration grew, Spurs fans chanted “We want Levy out” in the 15th and 61st minutes, expressing their dissatisfaction with chairman Daniel Levy.
With only the Europa League left as a realistic chance of silverware, Postecoglou’s promise of winning trophies in his second season now looks increasingly difficult.
