Bruno Fernandes Shuts Down Exit Rumours: “I Haven’t Agreed to Leave Man Utd”

Bruno Fernandes: “I Have Not Agreed to Leave Manchester United”

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has firmly denied reports suggesting he has agreed to leave Old Trafford, insisting he remains committed to the club and will not entertain any discussions about his future until after the 2026 World Cup.

The Portuguese midfielder is set to make his 300th appearance for United this weekend, marking another milestone in a remarkable spell since joining from Sporting CP in January 2020 for £47m.

No Exit Deal Signed, Focus Stays on United

Despite heavy speculation linking Fernandes with a move to Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal and other major European clubs, the 31-year-old dismissed the idea that any deal had been agreed.

“If the club has done that agreement, it wasn’t made with me,” Fernandes told BBC Sport. “I haven’t spoken with anyone.”

Sources close to the player confirm he has no interest in moving to Saudi Arabia, preferring instead to pursue European honours with United. His current contract runs until 2027, with a €65m release clause for clubs outside England if triggered early.

‘Not Fulfilled My Dreams Yet’

Fernandes admitted that conversations with family — especially his wife Ana — convinced him that he had more to achieve at Manchester United.

“She asked me: ‘Have you achieved everything you wanted to achieve at the club?’ She knows I haven’t,” he said.

“The house here feels more like home than the one in Portugal. We’re settled. My kids love it. I’m not done here.”

United First: Fernandes’ Leadership Beyond the Pitch

Fernandes is widely respected for his leadership at Carrington and beyond. After United’s historic win at Anfield, the captain returned to the training ground the next day — not to train, but to support teammates in the rain.

“When people say I give my body and soul to this club — that’s what it means,” he explained.

While individual praise is welcome, the midfielder remains focused on trophies, not stats:

“I want to win trophies, not just be remembered for my numbers.”

Kobbie Mainoo & United’s New Core

Fernandes had high praise for Kobbie Mainoo, the rising English star seen as a positional rival by many. But the Portuguese sees the youngster as a complementary figure:

“Kobbie makes me a better player. We’re different, but we give different things to the team. He’s capable of high-level football.”

He also praised summer signings Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, lauding their boldness and character:

“Cunha has the arrogance to demand the ball and play. Bryan sometimes overplays in training, but I tell him — you did it against us at Brentford, now do it for us!”

The Bigger Picture: Leadership Amid Instability

With United’s recruitment strategy under scrutiny, Fernandes believes the club needs big characters, not just talented players.

“Being a good player isn’t enough here. The pressure, the spotlight — you need to be built for it.”

And Fernandes still sees himself as part of that mission:

“I want to be remembered for the many good things I did for this club — and I’m not finished yet.”
