Dortmund Criticise Italian Authorities Over Fan Treatment

Borussia Dortmund have condemned what they describe as “disproportionate measures” taken by Italian authorities ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League clash against Atalanta in Bergamo.

The Bundesliga side confirmed that several supporters were denied entry into Italy, while others were reportedly visited by police at their accommodation prior to the match.

Club Statement: “Incomprehensible Measures”

In an official statement, Dortmund expressed strong concern over the handling of the situation:

“The club was not informed in advance about these disproportionate measures.

The club is more than surprised by the scope and scale of the police measures taken.”

The German giants added that actions of this magnitude had “never before been taken” in connection with their previous European away fixtures.

Dortmund further described the behaviour of the authorities as “incomprehensible”, raising questions about communication and proportionality.

Fans React to “Unprecedented” Situation

One of Dortmund’s supporter groups labelled the situation “unprecedented”, stating that several fans had “reluctantly decided to stay away from the match” as a result of the police actions.

The developments cast a shadow over what is a crucial European fixture for the club.

Champions League Context

Dortmund travel to Italy holding a 2-0 advantage from the first leg in Germany.

The winners of the knockout play-off tie will face either Arsenal or Bayern Munich in the last 16 of the competition.

While the focus on the pitch remains on securing progression, the pre-match controversy has shifted attention toward fan treatment and security coordination during European fixtures.
