England U21s Crush Slovakia 4-0 to Top Euro Qualifying Group

England U21s Outclass Slovakia to Stay Perfect in Euro 2027 Qualifying

England Under-21s continued their flawless start to the UEFA Euro 2027 qualifying campaign with a commanding 4-0 away win over Slovakia, moving to the top of Group D with five straight victories.

Lee Carsley’s reigning champions showed class, control, and composure as they closed in on a third consecutive European title, having won in 2023 and 2025.

First Half: Mubama Opens the Scoring

The breakthrough came early as Divin Mubama—currently on loan at Stoke City from Manchester City—headed home from close range in the 18th minute. The chance was created brilliantly by Chelsea winger Tyrique George, who kept the ball alive on the byline and delivered the assist.

Second Half: Clinical Finishing Seals the Win

Just seconds into the second half, Sheffield United’s Sydie Peck nearly doubled the lead with a low strike that was fumbled by Slovakian keeper Adam Hrdina, only for the ball to be stopped on the goalline.

England did extend their lead on the hour mark when Arsenal’s Ethan Nwaneri made it 2-0 with a cool chip over Hrdina, following a precise through-ball from Peck.

Fulham’s Josh King came off the bench to score his first goal at U21 level, converting after a slick move involving Genoa’s Brooke Norton-Cuffy and Manchester City’s Rico Lewis.

Mubama wrapped up the scoring in the 87th minute, finishing into the bottom corner to grab his second of the night and maintain England’s 100% record.

Table Standings & Road Ahead

  • England U21s now lead Group D by two points, having played one fewer game than second-placed Slovakia.

  • The Young Lions are next in action on 27 March vs Andorra (away) and 31 March vs Moldova (home).

The nine group winners and the best runner-up will qualify automatically for the 2027 UEFA U21 Championship in Albania and Serbia, while the other eight runners-up face play-offs for the remaining four spots.

Summary:

With goals from Mubama (2), Nwaneri, and King, England U21s sent a strong message to their European rivals. Lee Carsley’s side are now firm favourites to qualify directly for the finals and defend their back-to-back titles.
