Fritz Seals Laver Cup Win as Team World Triumphs Over Europe
Fritz Secures Laver Cup Win for Team World
Team World triumphed at the 2025 Laver Cup in San Francisco, sealing a thrilling 15-9 victory over Team Europe after Taylor Fritz defeated Alexander Zverev in the penultimate singles match.
Inspired by the courtside energy of legendary captain Andre Agassi, Fritz delivered a high-stakes performance to beat world number three Zverev 6-3, 7-6 (7-4), clinching Team World’s third straight Laver Cup title.
Fritz Rises to the Occasion
Going into the match, Team World led 12-9, needing just one win to hit the 15-point threshold. With three points awarded for Sunday singles wins, Zverev had the chance to level the contest — but Fritz held his nerve.
“We’re definitely popping champagne in the locker room in a few minutes,” said Fritz, who also stunned world number one Carlos Alcaraz on Saturday to help build a commanding 9-3 overnight lead.
“Seeing a legend like Andre Agassi jumping out of his seat cheering for me… it’s impossible not to give everything you have in every point,” he added.
Agassi’s Impact & Team Spirit

Agassi’s courtside coaching was a key spark. His animated support and tactical input seemed to fire up his players throughout the weekend.
Fritz emphasized how the team format elevates his level, saying:
“You’re doing it for all these guys. I always feel I play my best tennis in team environments.”
This marks a third Laver Cup title for Team World after back-to-back wins in 2022 and 2023, ending years of European dominance in the exhibition team event.
How the Final Day Unfolded
-
Alcaraz & Casper Ruud started the day strongly for Team Europe, winning a tight 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 doubles match over Americans Reilly Opelka and Alex Michelsen, narrowing the gap to 9-6.
-
Alex de Minaur then defeated Czech youngster Jakub Mensik 6-3, 6-4, extending Team World’s lead to 12-6.
-
Alcaraz gave Europe a lifeline with a 6-2, 6-1 dismantling of Francisco Cerundolo, making it 12-9.
-
But Fritz delivered the decisive blow, ensuring Team Europe’s fightback was cut short.
Team Europe were captained by Yannick Noah, while Agassi oversaw Team World in his debut leadership role.
What’s Next?
The next Laver Cup will take place from 25-27 September 2026 at the O2 Arena in London. With Team World now on a winning streak, Europe will be desperate to regroup and reclaim the trophy on home soil.
