Liverpool Agree Record £125m Deal for Alexander Isak

Liverpool Smash Transfer Record with £125m Move for Isak

Liverpool have agreed a British transfer record fee of £125m to sign Swedish striker Alexander Isak from Newcastle United, in a dramatic deadline day move that rewrites the Premier League transfer books.

Multiple sources, including BBC Sport, confirm that Isak has already begun his medical in London, with a six-year deal ready for signature. The agreement includes £5m in add-ons, taking the potential fee to £130m.

Record-Breaking Summer at Anfield

The deal eclipses the previous British transfer record held by Enzo Fernandez, who joined Chelsea from Benfica in 2023 for £107m.

It also means Liverpool have now spent over £451m this summer – the highest single-window spend in Premier League history, surpassing Chelsea’s £401.2m in 2023.

Recent high-profile arrivals include:

  • Florian Wirtz (£100m + £16m add-ons)

  • Jeremie Frimpong

  • Giorgi Mamardashvili

  • Milos Kerkez

  • Giovanni Leoni

  • Armin Pecsi

  • Hugo Ekitike

Despite a failed £35m move for defender Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace, Liverpool have significantly bolstered their ranks.

Isak’s Rise and Fractured Newcastle Exit

Isak, 25, joined Newcastle in 2022 for £60m and quickly became a fan favourite. He scored 27 goals in 42 games last season, helped the Magpies lift the Carabao Cup, and drove them to a fifth-place Premier League finish.

But tensions grew this summer. After being left out of Newcastle’s pre-season tour with a “minor thigh injury”, Isak trained alone at former club Real Sociedad, triggering speculation of a falling-out.

On 19 August, he released a public statement saying promises were “broken” and that the “relationship can’t continue”. Newcastle denied making any transfer guarantees.

Following the signing of Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart for £65m, Newcastle agreed to the sale of Isak, ending weeks of uncertainty.

Liverpool’s Net Spend and Outgoings

Despite their record spending, Liverpool have offloaded several players, generating £190m in sales:

  • Luis Diaz

  • Darwin Nunez

  • Trent Alexander-Arnold

  • Caoimhin Kelleher

  • Jarell Quansah

  • Tyler Morton

  • Ben Doak

Where the Isak Deal Ranks Globally

If completed, Isak’s £125m fee would place him third on the global transfer fee list based on initial payments:

  1. Neymar – £200m (PSG from Barcelona, 2017)

  2. Kylian Mbappe – £165.7m (PSG from Monaco, 2017)

  3. Alexander Isak – £125m (Liverpool from Newcastle, 2025)

  4. Philippe Coutinho – £105m (Barcelona from Liverpool, 2018)

  5. Ousmane Dembele – £96.8m (Barcelona from Dortmund, 2017)

Final Thoughts

The acquisition of Alexander Isak signals Liverpool’s intent to dominate both domestically and in Europe, and with manager Arne Slot looking to build a fresh attacking trio, Isak becomes the centrepiece of a record-breaking summer rebuild.
