Marquez Wins Seventh MotoGP Title to Equal Valentino Rossi

Marc Marquez has completed one of the most emotional and extraordinary comebacks in motorsport history, clinching his seventh MotoGP World Championship to equal the legendary Valentino Rossi’s tally.

The 32-year-old Spaniard finished second at the Japan Grand Prix behind teammate Francesco Bagnaia, but it was enough to wrap up the 2025 title with five races to spare.

Tears of Triumph After Years of Pain

Crossing the line in Motegi, Marquez broke down in tears, holding his head in disbelief before embracing his brother Alex Marquez, who finished sixth and had been his closest challenger in the standings.

“It’s impossible even to speak… I’m at peace with myself,” said a tearful Marquez.

His emotional outburst was the culmination of a five-year journey of resilience after a career-threatening arm injury in 2020 derailed his dominance. Marquez underwent four surgeries, missed numerous races, and faced doubts about whether he could ever return to the top.

Comeback Fueled by Ducati Switch

After a storied 11-year career with Honda, Marquez made a bold switch to Ducati in 2023, a decision that has proven pivotal.

In his 2025 campaign:

  • He recorded 11 wins so far.

  • Built a 201-point lead over Alex Marquez.

  • Clinched the championship with five races remaining.

“I did a big mistake coming back too early [from surgery]. And then I fight, fight, fight — and I won again,” he said.

Level with Legends

Marquez now joins Valentino Rossi with seven premier class world titles, solidifying his place among the greatest in MotoGP history.
