Forest Sign Jair Cunha From Botafogo on Five-Year Deal

Nottingham Forest have announced the signing of Brazilian defender Jair Cunha from Botafogo, with the 20-year-old penning a contract until the summer of 2030.

Cunha becomes Forest’s second acquisition from Botafogo in just a week, following the arrival of striker Igor Jesus for a reported £10m.

Rising Star From Brazil

Cunha joined Botafogo in February and quickly impressed, scoring in the Club World Cup during a 2-1 win over Seattle Sounders. He previously came through the ranks at Santos, making 24 appearances before his move to Rio de Janeiro.

The young defender has also represented Brazil at U20 level, playing eight times and helping his country secure the U20 South America Championship earlier this year.

“Jair is a young talent who has shown quality during his time in Brazil, and we are happy to have secured his signature,” said Forest chief football officer Ross Wilson. “He now has new ambitions as he moves to the Premier League.”

Forest Squad Changes

Cunha’s arrival coincides with speculation about potential departures at Forest. Newcastle United have agreed a £55m deal for Sweden winger Anthony Elanga, while Tottenham are pursuing England midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White in a £60m move.

Cunha will now look to adapt to the pace of English football as Forest continue reshaping their squad ahead of the new Premier League season.
