Spurs Open Talks with Brentford Over Thomas Frank Appointment

Spurs open talks with Brentford over head coach Frank

Tottenham Hotspur have opened negotiations with Brentford to appoint Thomas Frank as their new head coach following the sacking of Ange Postecoglou.

Frank, 51, has emerged as the leading candidate to take over at Spurs. The Danish coach, known for his tactical intelligence and success with a limited budget, has impressed during his tenure at Brentford since taking charge in 2018.

Brentford are expected to demand over £10m in compensation to release Frank from his contract, which runs until 2027. The figure could increase based on how many of his current backroom staff he chooses to bring with him to north London.

Frank notably led Brentford to promotion via the Championship play-offs in 2021 and has kept the club stable in the Premier League, finishing 10th in the 2024-25 season—18 points and seven places above Spurs.

Postecoglou Out Despite Europa Glory

Despite guiding Spurs to Europa League victory, their first trophy in 17 years, Postecoglou was dismissed after the club’s disastrous Premier League campaign, finishing 17th and narrowly avoiding relegation.

The decision signals Tottenham’s desire for long-term stability and improved domestic performance heading into the new season.

Executive Shake-Up at Spurs

The managerial change is part of a wider internal reshuffle at Tottenham.

  • Scott Munn, the club’s chief football officer and a key figure behind Postecoglou’s 2023 appointment, is expected to depart this week.

  • Vinai Venkatesham, formerly at Arsenal, started as chief executive last Monday.

  • Executive director Donna Cullen has also left her position.

  • Fabio Paratici, the club’s former managing director of football, is in talks over a potential return once his FIFA ban—related to alleged financial misconduct during his time at Juventus—expires in July.

Despite interest from the Middle East, Paratici is said to prefer a return to Tottenham, where he has already been working behind the scenes on a consultancy basis.
